NEPSE posts double-digit growth, turnover stands at Rs. 2.20 billion

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 24: The benchmark of the share market index, NEPSE, posted double-digit growth on Tuesday, the third trading day of the week.

The NEPSE index increased by 51.31 points (2.71 per cent) and closed at 1,942.63 points on Tuesday.

The index increased by 8.11 points on Monday and 5.89 points on Sunday this week.

The sensitive index which measures the performance of group ‘A’ companies also increased by 8.84 points to close at 367.72 points today.

With the increment of the NEPSE index, the turnover also increased significantly.

A total of 6,067,432 shares worth Rs. 2.20 billion of 271 companies were bought and sold in 38,796 transactions on Tuesday.

Almost after three months, NEPSE traded the highest amount on Tuesday. There had been no transaction exceeding Rs. 2 billion since February 26 this year when shares worth Rs. 2.48 billion were traded.

According to NEPSE, the sub-indices of all groups went up today.

Sub-index of the life insurance group posted the highest growth of 365.34 points followed by the non-life insurance and manufacturing and processing group whose indices increased by 355.21 points and 183 points respectively.

Similarly, the sub-index of the microfinance group went up by 137.27 points, hotels and tourism by 131.07 points, development banks by 82.86 points, trading by 80.31 points and hydropower by 664.84 points.

The sub-index of the finance group increased by 51.54 points, others by 31.98 points, banking by 21.28 points, investment by 1.83 points and mutual fund by 0.08 points.

In today's transaction, the share prices of 247 companies increased while the share prices of only 14 companies witnessed a decline.

Share prices of three companies, including Kalika Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha, Khaptad Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha and Aatamanirbhar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha rose by 10 per cent in today’s transaction. 

Similarly, the share price of Samudayik Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha increased by 9.99 per cent, River Falls Power by 8.37 per cent, Ajod Insurance by 8.08 per cent and Global IME Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha by 7.92 per cent.

However, the share price of Sunrise First Mutual Fund decreased by 2 per cent, Global IME Bank Limited Debenture by 1.98 per cent, Laxmi Unnati Kosh by 1.65 per cent and Laxmi Bank Debenture 2088 by 1.65 per cent.
