By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 23: Pasang Dawa Sherpa has again tied Kami Rita Sherpa's record by reaching the summit of Mount Everest a 27th time.
According to Imagine Nepal, the expedition company he is associated with, the 46-year-old mountaineer reached the top of the world's tallest mountain at 8.25 am on Monday.
This was Pasang's second Everest ascent this season. He had earlier conquered the mountain on May 14. That brought his total number of Everest climbs to 26 and helped him match Kami Rita's record of the time for the greatest number of successful Everest summits.
Kami overtook him though on Wednesday when he climbed the peak a 27th time. However, Pasang matched this number less than a week later.
Born in Pangboche, Solukhumbu, Pasang Dawa's previous Everest ascents include once each in 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2017 and twice each in 2006, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2018, 2019 and 2022.
Meanwhile, Kami Rita, 53, is already on his way to the summit to regain the title of most Everest climbs and is expected to reach the top for his 28th time before the end of the week.
But, if things go according to plan, Pasang Dawa will meet that record too as he hopes to begin his third ascent this season, according to Everest Chronicle, a volunteer collective of professional journalists that reports on Nepal’s mountains.
