Fine Arts exhibition from May 29

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 22: The ‘National Fine Arts Exhibition-2080’ is scheduled from May 29 to June 13 in Kathmandu. Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), the organiser of the exhibition, informed at a press organised in Kathmandu on Sunday that a total of 697 artworks created by 610 artists will be showcased in the exhibition.

The artworks were chosen from a diverse collection of 754 submissions. These submissions were made by 652 registered artists. 

The exhibition will be divided into different categories. Artworks belonging to the folk art and traditional painting genre will be displayed at the Nepal Art Council, while modern paintings, Vastu (a traditional architectural concept), other creative arts, handicrafts, traditional sculpture, and modern sculpture will be exhibited at NAFA, it was informed at the press meet.

This year, the prestigious ‘Araniko National Fine Arts Award’ will be presented to Madan Chitrakar and Man Bahadur Dong for their outstanding contributions to the field of fine arts. Each of them will get a purse of Rs. 100,000.  

Additionally, the Art Promotion Award, established by the Academy, will be granted to Sangeeta Thapa, and Anil Chitrakar will be honoured as the goodwill ambassador of the National Fine Arts Exhibition 2080.

 Naradamani Hartmchali, Chancellor of the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, announced that the academy has a plan to organise surveys, art conferences, and competitive exhibitions in the provinces starting from next year.

According to Lalkaji Lama, the executive coordinator of the Arts Exhibition, there has been a change in the schedule for this year's exhibition. Previously, it used to be held the next day of Nepali New Year (April 15), it has now been rescheduled to May 29 to align with Republic Day.

During the event, Member Secretary Devendra Kumar Kafle 'Thumkeli' stated that the preparations for the exhibition have reached the final stage. In addition to the Nepal Fine Arts Academy, this year's exhibition will also take place at the Nepal Art Council in Babarmahal.

Anil Chitrakar, the goodwill ambassador of Exhibition, stressed the need for promoting fine arts and establishing the country as a recognised hub of artistic creativity.
