Five children’s books launched

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 19: Kopila Kitab, a publishing house, recently launched a series of five children's books at a programme held at the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts. The books, published under the series of  'Tales and Lies', include 'Bekhaman Ra Rakshasa,' 'Sankenko Khulduli,' 'Annako Bakhan,' 'Kapasko Ghoda,' and 'Jantar Mantar.'

The books were unveiled separately by  Naradmani Hartamchhhali, Chancellor of the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, Marleen Fischer, Chairman of the Thang Foundation, Prof. Dr. Dhruva Kumar Ghimire, President of the Nepalese Society for Children's Literature, Pramod Pradhan, Basu Kshitiz, President of the Cartoonist Club and Devendra Thumkeli, Member Secretary of the Nepal Academy 

of Fine Arts.

Prof. Dr. Ghimire expressed that Nepal possesses a wealth of stories and the books introduced by Kopila Kitab explore new themes for children, ranging from legends to contemporary subjects. Ghimire emphasised that writing children's books requires observation, study, and interactions.

Basu Kshitiz, president of the Cartoonist Club, highlighted the importance of incorporating pictures in children's books, as they tend to attract a wider audience compared to books with only letters.

Pramod Pradhan, president of the Nepalese Society for Children's Literature, emphasised the need for entertaining children through books. He believed that captivating opening lines and engaging contents can foster a reading culture among children, ultimately increasing the readership of literature.

Naradmani Hartamchhhali, the Chancellor of the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, commended Kopila Kitab for adding novelty to Nepali children's literature. The books in the series were written by various authors and illustrated by various artists.

 Bikram Bhakta Joshi authored 'Bekhaman Ra Rakshasa,' with artwork by Sobhitman Baniya. Bindu Sharma wrote 'Jantar Mantar,' which features illustrations by Alina Chhantel. Indra Chaudhary authored 'Kapasko Ghoda,' complemented by illustration of Prakash Ranjit. 

'Annako Bakhan' is written by Jitendra Basnet, with illustrations by Suman Maharjan. Srijana Rai penned 'Sankenko Khulduli,' with pictures drawn by Suraj Rai. Anuradha, a children's storyteller, served as the editor for all the books.

Bhanu Bhattarai, the president of Kopila Kitab, explained that their publishing house aims to understand children's psychology and convey it through pictures and simple language.
