Walkathon held to promote digital payments

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr.30: With the aim of promoting electronic payment transactions, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) organised the ‘Digital Payment Transaction Walkathon-2023’ in Kathmandu Saturday.

Inaugurating the walkathon, Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Maha Prasad Adhikari urged all concerned stakeholders to promote and encourage electronic payment transactions.

The rally which started from Durbar Marg passed along Bhadrakali, Sahidgate, Jamal and again passed Durbar Marg, Narayanhiti Museum, Narayanchaur, Naxal, Bhatbhateni and reached the NRB premises at Baluwatar.

In the event, more than 600 people, including Deputy Governor Dr. Neelam Dhungana Timsina, chief executive officer of banks and financial institutions, representatives of remittance companies, payment system operators and payment service providers, along with senior officials and employees of NRB participated, according to the NRB.

In the monetary policy of the fiscal year 2022/23, the NRB announced that this year would be celebrated as ‘Electronic Payment Promotion Year’.

Recently, as the number of online users has increased, the digital transaction business has also started to increase. According to NRB, the transactions using connect IPS, mobile banking, wallet, internet banking, ATM and Quick Response (QR) code have increased significantly in the current fiscal year.
