By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 29: New Road Team (NRT) denied Three Star Club top position at Martyr’s Memorial A Division League with a 1-0 victory at ANFA Complex, Lalitpur on Friday.
After suffering a 1-0 defeat, Three Star Club failed to take two points lead on the league table. Three Star remains in second place with 22 points from 13 matches. Jawalakhel Youth Club tops the table with 23 points with one match in hand.
The three points helped NRT rise to the eighth position with 16 points from 13 matches.
The Lalitpur’s Club failed to take the lead in the 35th minute after the experienced striker Santosh Shaukhala failed to convert
the penalty.
FIFA referee Biswas Karki rewarded Three Star with a penalty after NRT’s goalie Gaurav Shrestha brought down Peter Segun inside the box. Shaukhala, however, failed to capitalize on the golden chance by hitting out of the target.
After two minutes, Sanjeeb Bista scored the match-winning goal for NRT. Bista scored in the resulting rebound after Three Star custodian Taha Mohamad saved the NRT’s Saroj Tamang’s powerful strike.
Three Star failed to level after NRT Keeper Santosh Mahat denied the free kick off Shaukhala in the 67th minute.
The Lalitpur’s club squandered two chances in the dying minute as Keeper Mahat foiled the attempts from Segun and Sunny Byanjankar.
