By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 21: Nepal Telecom (NT) is going to distribute 150,000 e-SIMs to be used in smart meters of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
An agreement was reached between the two institutions on Thursday, according to the NT.
Chief Commercial Officer of Nepal Telecom Sangita Pahadi and Director of Distribution and Customer Service Directorate of NEA Achyut Babu Ghimire signed an agreement on behalf of their respective institutions.
On this occasion, NT Officer Pahadi expressed her sincere thanks for the commercial cooperation with the NEA and hoped that the cooperation will continue in the days to come. NEA Director Ghimire, for his part, expressed his happiness that Nepal Telecom SIM is already being used in smart meters and said the service will be available through e-SIM with new technology in the future.
The NEA is using smart meters for information related to electricity tariff.
With its help, information about electricity consumption can be obtained from the office, and it is expected to help to cut lines and control electricity leakage.
The NT said that the e-SIM helps to provide communication facilities between the authority's system and smart meters.
The e-SIM will be used for three phase customers with the current capacity up to 100 amperes.
Nepal Telecom has already provided 53,000 such SIMS to the NEA for the same purpose.
