Organising a press conference before its premiere show on Wednesday, Pasang Lhamu Foundation informed that the film would be screened in QFX halls across the country.
Dawa F. Sherpa, president of the Foundation, informed that American director Nancy Svendsen has worked hard for more than two decades to prepare the film based on life of the first Nepali woman to climb Mount Everest.
The 72-minute feature film is produced by Sharon Wood and Ang Dorjee Sherpa.
According to the Foundation, this film, which was premiered at the Santa Barba International Film Festival in March 2022, is going to be screened across the country coinciding the 30th Pasang Lhamu Day.
On Wednesday, the Foundation premiered the film in Nepal for the first time in the presence of high dignitaries including Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire.
The film chronicles inspiring and tragic journey of the famous woman mountaineer of Nepal.
The film has given a message of transformation to the society by connecting topics such as the struggle of an illiterate, indigenous woman from a remote area, the obstacles she faced and the support she received from the society and the family.
The main message of the film is to try hard to climb Mt. Everest again and again and finally succeed after overcoming all obstacles.
The film has been screened at 30 different film festivals including the prestigious Festivals at Telluride, Colorado, BANFF, Canada and Kendal Mountain Festival in UK and has won 14 awards.
An exemplary courage of a woman who could weave dreams and face obstacles to achieve success is shown in the film.
According to the Foundation, the film will also be screened in the main cities of the seven provinces including Lukla, Namche, with the goal of reaching students, parents and the elderly.
Dawa F. Sherpa, president of the Foundation and the eldest daughter of Pasang Lhamu said, “It is a story about how a national hero never backed down, and always put Nepal first.”
Filmmaker Svendsen said, “Since I first heard the story of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa from my brother-in-law Ang Dorjee Sherpa, I had been captivated by this charismatic woman who faced profound obstacles to follow her dream. Pasang’s personal story is full of courage— universally relevant and inspiring. Her death was tragic, but her life was not, she inspired a generation of young Nepali climbers to believe that reaching atop Everest is possible
for them.”
