By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 17: 'Bulaki', which was released on the Nepali New Year Day, has been withdrawn from the local theaters on the third day on Sunday, after its filmmakers felt injustice from the exhibitors.
The production team withdrew 'Bulaki' from the cinema halls claiming that it received fewer screenings than the two other movies released simultaneously on Friday. ‘Jaari’, ‘Bihe Pass’ and ‘Bulaki’ were released on Friday.
Director Laxman Sunar wrote on his Facebook, “We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have watched our 'Bulaki' and we deeply apologise to those who have not had the opportunity to watch it. We regret to inform you that the movie has been withdrawn from all local theaters, including those scheduled for Sunday. It is disheartening to witness a film that has been well-received by audiences making a target causing distress to its producers.”
Director Sunar mentioned six reasons for the decision to withdraw the film, including the neglect of the movie by the theater industry despite receiving positive feedback from audiences, allocation of only off-time shows, giving no show at the main station outside the valley, being scheduled for only morning shows, cutting 70 per cent of its shows from the second day of its release, and giving low advance booking without considering the film's content or the hype it had received from its first look poster, teaser, trailer, and song.
“In response to the demand of our moviegoers, we will consider showing the film in junctions or squares through projectors, depending on the situation,” he wrote.
Sunar claimed that when they took the risk of investing millions of rupees and decided to bring the stories of Karnali and Sudurpaschim regions, which were neglected by Kathmandu to the light, the film industry did not support them.
Earlier, 'Radha' directed by Subarna Thapa was also removed from the hall by its production team saying that it was given less shows compared to other films released on the same date.
