By Jayaman Budha Magar,Rukum East, Apr. 13: Communication service has finally reached Pelma, a village in Ward No. 2 of Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality in Rukum East district. Alongside Pelma, locals of Ward No. 1 and 5 have also gained benefits.

The villages were barred from communication-related services in lack of necessary infrastructure.

However, after the newly constructed Nepal Telecom's cell tower came into operation on Thursday, locals have finally been connected with the wider world through telephone services.

Nepal government had invested in the cell tower construction which started four years ago.

It has been constructed in Duskibang area of Ward No. 2.

"It took four years for the tower to be constructed. The delay was due to lack of road. The village has not been connected with the road network yet, and it affected the transportation of construction equipment," said Jas Bahadur Shreepali, ward chairman of Ward No. 2.

According to Shreepali, locals have started making calls to their friends and relatives living far away. Around 6,000 locals have been benefitted by the tower construction.

The tower is also being powered by solar energy.

"I am happy after being able to call a relative from my own house," said Jitaram Kami, a local of Pelma.

Nepal Telecom's Rukum East office chief Chandan Kumar Yadav said that they have started 2G and 4G services in the area.

"In our life, our country has developed a lot.

However, we were deprived of communication till date. Now, we expect that the government has more plans and programmes for us," said Kami.
