By Our Correspondents,Baitadi/Sindhuli, Apr. 13: Road accidents have killed a total of 10 individuals in Baitadi and Sindhuli districts Tuesday night.
According to police, a jeep (Se 1 Ja 764) en-route to Bagthala, Bajhang, from Jhulaghat border point in Baitadi district met with an accident in Ward No. 9 of Patan Municipality in Baitadi.
The jeep, which was carrying Nepalis returning for Bisu Festival, had fallen around 500 metres off the road killing six passengers on board.
The deceased have been identified as Mane Bohora, 60; Gorakh Bohora, 35; Nare Bohora, 40; Birkha Dhami, 45; Man Bahadur Dhami, 45; and Bire Dhami, 45.
Meanwhile, five other individuals were able to evade death by jumping out of the jeep. The survivors have been identified as Mahesh Bohora, Lal Bahadur Bohora, Jagi Bohora, Rajendra Bohora and Madan Bohora.
"The jeep was struggling to climb the uphill road due to overload. Then it got slipped back and we jumped out from the side door. But not all could jump out and survive," said Madan Bohora, a survivor.
Since it was midnight and the jeep was on a cliff, the dead bodies were recovered Wednesday morning.
The jeep was carrying a total of 12 individuals, including the driver. However, the driver, Arjun Bohora, has been on a run after the accident.
"I had seen the jeep heading towards Bajhang. I had clicked its photo as well because it was overloaded with goods and people.
I was left in shock when I heard about the accident," said Mahesh Bhatta, a local of Baitadi.
Locals also informed that vehicles carrying passengers and goods exceeding the limit had been a new normal in the area in lack of proper and enough transport services.
Meanwhile, four Indian nationals have died after their car (BR 06 DD 0687) met with an accident near the gate to the Sindhuligadhi Fort in Ward No. 3 of Kamalamai Municipality in Sindhuli district.
According to police, there were five individuals in the car en-route to Kathmandu. Among them, three died on the spot, one died during treatment, and one is undergoing treatment for the injuries.
The car had fallen around 500 metres off the road after it went out of control. Police also informed that the rescue was difficult as the car had fallen into a geographically difficult area.
The deceased have been identified as Rajesh Kumar Singh, Mahesh Kumar Chaudhary, Mrityaiz Kumar Phulara and Abishek Thakur.
The injured individual has been identified as Dharmendra Sah. He is undergoing treatment at Dhulikhel Hospital.
