KMC provides financial supports to 86 cultural organisations

BY A STAFF REPORTER,Kathmandu, Apr. 11: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) provided financial support of Rs. 200,000 each to 86 different organisations working for the preservation of traditional instruments and transferring the traditional arts and crafts to new generations in Kathmandu on Monday. 

Mayor Balanedra Shah and Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol handed over a cheque of the amount each to 63 organistaions under Jyapu 

Mahaguthi and 23 organisations under Traditional Tole and Gunla Banja Conservation and Management Association. Speaking at the programme, Mayor Shah said that there was an inseparable relationship between the river civilisation and the traditional behaviours of the people of Kathmandu. 

"The continuation of the cultural activities of the people of Kathmandu will be incomplete if the river civilisation is separated. Therefore, let's protect the natural, cultural and social heritages together," he said.  He also informed that the KMC had prioritised tutorials and video makings about the traditional music and instruments so that people could get knowledge through digital platforms.

Deputy Mayor Dangol said that preservation of cultural heritages should be kept above politics. 

"Kathmandu Metropolitan City will cover the importance of cultural activities for social management and identity in its policies and programmes," she said.  

"Traditional and cultural customs and places connected with such customs like Anga Chhen, Twa Chhen and Dyo Chhen will be studied and connected with the educational field for promotion." 

Pancha Narayan Maharjan, president of Jyapu Mahaguthi, said that the financial support provided by the KMC would be key for the preservation of traditional music and instruments and it would benefit both KMC and the community. 

Similarly, Amir Man Shakya, president of Gunla Banja Conservation and Management Association, said that the culture of 

Gunla Banja was introduced with the Newars migrating from Lumbini in the valley.
