Butwal discusses development projects with donors

By Our Correspondent,Butwal, Apr. 2: Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City has proposed eight plans for the development of Butwal with representatives of the World Bank and development partners.

In a discussion held in Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City with donor agencies interested in the development of Butwal, eight plans were proposed on behalf of Butwal Municipality.

Mayor of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City Khelraj Pandey proposed a plan for the construction of additional infrastructures as one-stage development of Butwal has progressed.

He proposed for the construction of 150 km of internal roads in Butwal, 135 km of main and subsidiary roads, control of Tinau River and water tourism, reconstruction of old Butwal while preserving the originality of Butwal and development of tourist spots.

Similarly, the sub-metropolitan city has proposed a plan for the construction of urban health centres with facilities in each ward, women entrepreneurship and empowerment project, construction of parking and commercial buildings and construction of green parks.

At the discussion with representatives of the World Bank, United Nations Development Programme, British Embassy in Kathmandu and the Ministry of Urban Development, Mayor Pandey said that cooperation with development partners was necessary to establish Butwal as a prosperous city in the country.

World Bank Country Director Faris Hadad-Zervos said that the WB would extend its hand for cooperation with an emerging city like Butwal.

He said that he was impressed by rapid development of Butwal and said that he was willing to work on some plans in Butwal.

He said that the proposals of Butwal are good and the World Bank is positive because it will benefit the common people.

Sabita Thapa, a representative of the British Embassy, said that the Embassy was willing to join hands in the development of Butwal.

Thapa said that they were positive to cooperate in the plan that will benefit the people.

Anders Magnusson, representative of UNDP, said that Butwal had made good progress in development and said that the UNDP was positive to work on new plans.
