Fire destroys property worth millions across nation

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 29: More than half-a-dozen fire incidents resulting to damages worth millions of rupees were reported from across the country on Monday and Tuesday.

In many incidents, fire expanded to more than one houses in lack of proper resources to bring fire under control.

According to Nepal Police Headquarters daily bulletin, a fire that started from a shed of Ramreet Hajara at Khajani Bazaar in Ward No. 2 of Simraungadh Municipality in Bara district expanded to six other sheds and houses. Property worth around Rs. 825,000 was damaged in the fire.

Similarly, an electric short circuit caused fire in the house of Arun Chaudhary in Ward No. 3 of Khadak Municipality of Saptari district. Property worth around Rs. 700,000 was damaged in the incident.

Likewise, a fire destroyed the house of Chanardev Mandal in Ward No. 9 of Kamala Municipality of Dhanusha district. Police reported a damage worth Rs. 550,000 in the fire which was also caused by electric short circuit.

In Jhapa district, fire destroyed 11 haystacks of farmers in Ward No. 5 of Kachankawal Rural Municipality. The fire was brought under control by local farmers, fire engines and security forces.

Also, a wildfire from Dharmadevi Salbote Community Forest expanded to a settlement in Ward No. 2 of Mahalaxmi Municipality in Dhankuta district and destroyed houses of Raj Kumar Kattel and three others.

Property worth around Rs. 2.4 million was damaged in the fire, police said. Meanwhile, a fire destroyed an offset press in Dhankuta district headquarters Tuesday morning. 

The cause of the fire in the Janabishwash Offset Press in front of the district hospital in Ward No. 7 of Dhankuta Municipality is said to be an electric short circuit.

A loss of Rs. 5 million was reported in the fire. In many places, the victims and locals informed that the damages could have been averted had there been adequate resources to immediately bring the fire under control.
