Reconstruction of houses of flood and landslide victims compelled to live in tents

By Hari Krishna Aidi, Mugu, March 14: People displaced by the floods and landslides have been forced to live in tents due to a lack of management of displaced for over five months.

According to the decision of the government, districts of Karnali Province including Mugu district have been declared as flood and landslide-prone areas, but, the relief funds are yet to reach victims.

The report of the District Police Office showed that 1,300 homes located in the Chhayanath Rara Municipality, Soru Rural Municipality, and Khatyad Rural Municipality of the district are partially and fully destroyed by flood and landslides.

Khadka Bahadur Rokaya, Acting Chief District Officer of the District Administration Office, said that according to the decision of the federal government Mugu district has been declared as a crisis area and data collection is now underway.

Bishnu Kumar Bham, Mayor of Chhayanath Rara Municipality, said that according to the correspondence of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Kathmandu, the municipality has been going to the respective wards for collecting data since January for the convenience of the residents.

He said, " The reconstruction of the houses of the victims of flood and landslides will commence by the end of the current fiscal year."

He said that as per the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Kathmandu work plan, correspondence has been sent to the concerned rural municipalities, as it will be applied in the evaluation and implementation of the online records of the technicians of the respective municipalities.

Sushmita Rawal, a technician of the Chhayanath Rara Municipality, said that data will be collected in 14 wards of the municipality within a week.

She said, "The statistics will come within a week, technicians of the concerned municipalities are busy collecting data in their respective wards."

As per the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Kathmandu directives, if two houses of the same landlords are found recorded in the online form, then the facility will be denied.
