Minister Giri pledges to make health sector patient centric

BY OUR CORRESPONDENT,Parbat, Jan. 29: Minister for Health and Population Padam Giri expressed his commitment to providing quality and accessible health services to the public by improving the health sector.

Inaugurating the ICT class at Birendra Secondary School in Pukuwa of Kushma Municipality-11 in Parbat district, Minister Giri said that there would be certain positive changes in the health sector and the general public could experience it. "We will work to turn the challenges of the health sector into an opportunity," he said, adding, "No Nepali should be deprived of medical treatment due to financial constraint." 

Stating that the Ministry of Health and Population is a sensitive ministry, Minister Giri pledged to end the untimely loss of lives of people of every section and community for lack of treatment. The government would identify the problems seen in the health sector and focus on resolving them, he stressed. 

He said that there are many problems in health sector and now he will work to improve it.  Minister Giri said that the people of the rural areas are not getting to enjoy quality health services as no skilled manpower wants to serve there.

 "Now the government health workers will be mobilised in every nook and corner of society by allocating fixed time service for certain period."

Minister Giri stressed the need of improving health sector so that any kind of disease could be treated in Nepal. "Policy, legal and technical issues need to be corrected and moved forward for the improvement of the health sector. We will work to improve the big hospitals of Nepal and upgrade the physical infrastructure, human resources and necessary health equipment of the hospitals in the rural areas," he added. 

Stating that it would be made mandatory to take possible medical services in hospitals of Nepal, he stressed the need to eliminate the policy of going abroad for treatment at the government's expense. 

He said that quality and accessible health services would be assured after reviewing some provisions for health insurance programme. According to him, arrangements would be made to make health insurance sustainable and reliable in the coming days so that needy people would be able to avail services through insurance policy. Minister Giri also announced to open well-equipped hospitals in all seven local levels of the district within the next five years.
