By Our Correspondent,Sharada (Salyan), July 12: Goats worth over Rs. 30 million have been supplied to market from a single municipality in Salyan.
Farmers affiliated with groups and cooperatives in the Triveni Rural Municipality of the district have earned Rs. 32.22 million by selling goats in a year.
Stating that the rural municipality has been providing subsidies to farmers, who sell goats through cooperatives, under the 'Farmers' Production, Rural Municipality's subsidy programme', chairman of Triveni Rural Municipality Khim Bahadur Rawat said that the subsidy provision has attracted farmers towards goat farming.
"Farmers are making good income by selling goats," he said. "There were also complaints that farmers were being harmed when traders arbitrarily determined the price of goats. Farmers are happy after they started selling the goats through cooperatives."
Basanta Rawat, head of the livestock development branch of Triveni Rural Municipality, said that 308 farmers, who sold a minimum of 100 kg of goat meat in 2024/25, were given Rs. 1 million as subsidy at the rate of Rs. 20 per kg.
A total of 120 farmers of Durga Bhawani Social Entrepreneur Women's Cooperative were given Rs. 528,220.
Farmers affiliated with this cooperative have supplied goat worth Rs. 14.61 million.
Similarly, 73 farmers have been given a subsidy of Rs. 232,120 from the Namuna Social Entrepreneur Women's Cooperative. Goat worth Rs. 7 million were sold from this cooperative.
According to rural municipality, 62 farmers have been given a subsidy of Rs. 187,400 from the Uphaar Social Entrepreneur Women's Cooperative. Goat worth Rs. 7.15 million has been sold from this cooperative.
Similarly, 53 farmers have been given a subsidy of Rs. 139,839 from the Triveni Animal Husbandry Cooperative, and goats worth Rs. 3.83 million have been sold.
Rawat said that the rural municipality has supplied goat worth about Rs. 10 million more than the last fiscal year.
In the last fiscal year, farmers of Triveni Rural Municipality had sold goats worth Rs. 23.63 million through cooperatives and also received a subsidy from the municipality.
Although groups and cooperatives can be listed in the rural municipality for goat sales, only five cooperatives were listed this year.
Under the 'Farmers' Production, Rural Municipality's subsidy programme', Triveni Rural Municipality has been providing Rs. 20 per kilogram to farmers who sell more than one hundred kilograms of goats through cooperatives and groups.
In addition, funds are also provided to the cooperatives at the rate of Rs. 1 per kilogram for management.
Triveni Rural Municipality, which has been providing grants since the fiscal year 2019/20, has developed Ward Nos. 2, 4, and 5 as goat pocket areas.
