By Kamal Sharma,Dailekh, Jan. 24: A leopard has died falling into a trap set for wild boars in Chisapani of Dullu Municipality-9, Dailekh district. The injured leopard died while it was being brought to the district headquarters after freeing it from the trap.
Bed Prasad Dhakal, Acting Head of the Division Forest Office, informed that the leopard died on way to the district headquarters. He said that a team from Bardiya National Park (BNP) had come to rescue the leopard.
He said that they were preparing to conduct post-mortem. “After that we will remove the skin and send it to Chitwan National Park,” he added.
Chitra Bahadur Khadka, an employee at BNP, said that a team came overnight to rescue the leopard and they found the leopard was unmovable in the hind part.
He said that when the leopard tried to escape after falling into the trap, the back part was tightened by the rope. It died on the way to the district headquarters.
According to locals, they were forced to set traps after the wild boars caused panic. Shyam Yogi of Dullu Municipality-9 said that after the wild boars created terror, they reported to the divisional forest office, but they did not pay any attention to it, and then they set up the traps.
