blog

By Our Correspondent,Humla, Jan.18: Namkha Rural Municipality imported nine trucks of food from China to feed the locals of Limi located beyond the Himalayas.

After China opened the Hilsa border one-way December 28 last year, the people of Limi, in Ward No 6 of the rural municipality, have been able to import food from China for the first time after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ward chairman Paljor Tamang said that nine trucks of food and other daily goods were imported from Taklakot, China.

The food was imported for the local people of Teel, Halji and Jang villages in Limi. He said that the food imported from China includes flour, oil, tea, ghee and sugar. Before the outbreak of COVID-19, the people of Limi used to rely on China to buy food, clothes and other essential goods.

After a lockdown imposed in the country in March 2020,  import from China halted and no food arrived in Limi from Taklakot, China for over three years.  This resulted in a food problem in Limi.  Thereafter,  residents of Limi started collecting cash and sent it to Taklakot, while the people of Limi, who were stranded in Taklakot because of COVID-19 outbreak,  made arrangements to buy food and send Hilsa. The people of Limi had spent more than Rs. 2 million to purchase of food.

He said that yaks and mules are used to carry food  from Hilsa to the villages of Limi. It takes four days to transport  food to Limi from Hilsa.   Since there has been no snowfall this year, it has been easy to transport food this year.
