Taplejung, Jan 17 : The Tamu Lhosar Organising Committee of Taplejung has made a profit. The committee, which organised Tamu Lhosar celebrations in the district on December 30, made a profit of over Rs. 100,000.

Publishing their income statement, the Committee informed that it made a profit of Rs. 170,508 from the event it organised to celebrate Lhosar last month.

This, the Committee said, was a pleasant surprise because the event had never been profitable before last year.

According to Treasurer Yam Kumar Gurung, the Committee had collected Rs. 1.85 million for the event, of which, it spent Rs. 1.68 million.

“This money was donated by members of the Gurung community living in Nepal and abroad, other well-wishers, Phungling Municipality, ward offices, elected representatives and businesses,” he informed. “We are yet to receive some amount announced by the wards too.”

Lhosar is a grand festival in Taplejung celebrated not only by the Gurung community but also other ethnic groups.

The organising committee has also been using Lhosar as an occasion to promote harmony and tourism
