Nagarjun distributes blankets, runs cleaning drive, sterilises dogs

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 9: Nagarjun Municipality-1 Office, in Kathmandu district, has distributed 48 blankets to single women, low-income people, elderlies and differently-abled women of the municipality on Friday and Saturday. 

Ward chairman Rameshwor Lama and other members of the ward office distributed the blankets in two days. 

The local representatives led by ward chair Lama directly reached the homes of single women, elderlies and poor families residing mainly at Raniban village to distribute the blankets amid deepening cold. 

Following the distribution of the blankets, ward chair Lama said they were distributed in an effort to keep the vulnerable safe from chilling cold.

This is the first time that the ward has distributed blankets to the vulnerable families. 

Meanwhile, the ward office has also concluded sterilisation of 100 stray dogs in the last two days at 

Raniban area of the municipality in an effort to control the population of the street dogs and keep the risk of rabies at bay.  

The sterilisation campaign was conducted with the help of veterinarians managed by the municipality’s head office. Similarly, the stray dogs were also vaccinated against rabies.

Likewise, the ward office has also completed a 10-day cleaning campaign of its area, removing all the hoarding boards, posters and different advertisement displays of schools, colleges, and products in public places. The idea is to keep the village clean and fresh, said ward chair Lama. 

“We have been conducting this cleaning campaign regularly to keep our own village free from all kinds advertisements placed randomly and without taking permission from the municipality,” ward chair Lama said. “This campaign will be conducted periodically.”  

“We will fine the people throwing waste in the public places and pasting and hanging advertisements on the electricity poles and public walls after identifying them,” he said. In the last 10 days of cleaning campaign, the ward, with the help of municipality’s waste collection unit, has collected over 1000 kg of waste.
