Anger Management

blog

Britti Aryal

Anger is a normal natural emotion that we feel when something has gone wrong or someone has wronged us. It is a hostility we can feel as a response to the unwanted actions of second parties who are discerned to be disrespectful, insulting, or threatening. It is the result of stress, exhaustion, confrontation, and suppression of emotions.

The feeling of anger arises due to how we interpret and react to certain situations. Everyone has their own trigger. People can interpret situations differently. So, a situation that makes you feel angry may not make someone else feel angry at all. It also depends upon the tolerance capacity of individuals. Those who are mentally and physically strong have more forbearance ability.

They can overcome fears, bear all the problems easily, and have the strength to control anger.  But some people are sensible and emotionally weak and cannot easily come out of the muddles. It is difficult for them to easily emerge from the troubles in response to which they initiate the feeling of anger.

Sometimes, anger can be a positive and useful tool if it is expressed appropriately, especially to increase focus and improve our performance. Besides, anger just has consequences. Anger if uncontrolled can interfere with relationships and create hindrances. From affecting the thinking and behavioural pattern of an individual, anger may end up creating massive health-related issues followed by anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Losing your control over things not just becomes problematic to you but also anguishes the people you are surrounded by. Anger can somehow be contemplated until it gets out of control. It becomes more troublesome when it gets destructive and turns out to be physical violence and aggression. Regular emotional outburst resulting in throwing and breaking things, screaming, yelling, and showing extreme irritability toward the person you are angry with demolishes the good correlation and breaks the bond with your loved ones. Anger is toxic and it just creates a negative impact on you and the people you are bounded by.

Everyone knows what it feels like to be angry. Yet the ways to control anger are not well understood. It is very important to deal with anger in a healthy way that doesn’t harm you or anyone else. It might be hard to talk about things at the moment, so giving things time to cool down is probably a good idea. It is impossible to avoid things or people that provoke you, but at least you can try to control your own reactions. Identifying things that are stressing you out not just helps to set your limits but also allows you to interact and participate in enjoyable activities diminishing the stress before it turns into anger.

It is always necessary to stay in control of our emotions and learning to see situations from another’s point of view bestows us the chance to understand the circumstances and seize the anger. Communicating our feelings, and clearly stating what we want, automatically topples the sitch leaving no point to become angry. Anger is often the result of our unmet expectations. So, learning to adjust teaches us to cope with troubles without showing anger.

Making a conscious decision to forgive and accept the situation as it is, is also a good step toward controlling our anger. Practising some physical exercises like yoga, listening to calm music, and doing the things you love helps reduces anger too. But, sometimes the strategies you are using to cope with anger may not be enough. In that state, it is requisite to reach out to professionals.

Learning to control anger is a gift you give to yourself. It enables you to live a happy life without reminiscing about what has happened, giving you peace of mind which is much more valuable than wealth.
