By Diwakar Pokhrel, Deukhuri, Dec. 4: Preparations are being made to host the first meeting of the new Provincial Assembly (PA) of Lumbini in its permanent capital Deukhuri, Dang.

The provincial government is currently building infrastructure to enable the new provincial legislature to meet in the designated capital. It also wants to have the seat of the new government in Deukhuri.

To ensure that work proceeds without a hitch, Chief Minister Kul Prasad KC has set up a monitoring office in Masuriya in the building of the Rapti Rural Municipality.

According to the information provided to The Rising Nepal, construction is nearly complete on the building for the Provincial Assembly. Work is also moving forward on the construction of Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, quarters for members of the provincial cabinet and other administrative buildings.

As per the Chief Minister’s Office, while the past governments were forced to work from the temporary capital Butwal, future ones will be able to deliver services from the facilities being built at Dang. “The government will move to Deukhuri, no one should have any doubts about that,” CM KC also stressed.

“The last Provincial Assembly utilised its constitutional authority to decide on the permanent capital. The matter has been finalised and now no one has any right to raise any objections,” KC made it clear. “The provincial government is working intensely to move its base of operations to the place fixed by the Assembly.”

Earlier this week, the civil servants working in the province had said that they would not be able to work from Deukhuri until all the “necessary infrastructure” had been developed. They have not made any comments about the development works currently going on at the specified capital that could address their demands.

Meanwhile, elected federal and provincial representatives as well as local government officials of Deukhuri have begun meeting stakeholders and locals to understand their feelings about the relocation of the provincial government.

The employees of Rapti Rural Municipality have issued a statement saying they are ready to extend any assistance necessary to the government to facilitate the change of capital. Prakash Bista, head of the rural municipality, has also echoed this sentiment.
