Dixita collaborates with Milan on ‘Sedi Bagar’

Born on December 13, 2004, Dixita Karki is a Kathmandu-based singer/songwriter and YouTube influencer evident to the masses after her 2017 Justin Bieber cover published via her father’s social handle. Offspring of the popular YouTuber and musician Chetan Karki, the father-daughter duo helped uplift each other’s prominence by their much loved “papapugu” episodes. 

Dixita initiated her musical journey as she turned eight years old, and her father’s profession and outgoing personality helped her soar to unimaginable heights. Chetan Karki, being a composer, guitarist, recordist and studio owner, encouraged his daughter to participate in a cover video alongside him which was intended to be uploaded in his YouTube channel. However, the very video went viral making both the father and daughter an overnight success. 

At 17, the songstress already has 175,000 subscribers on her personal YouTube handle, and is en-route to be the future face of Nepali music. Her song writing ability, edgy persona, euphonious timbre, dynamic range and alluring charms only solidify her stance as the next eminent diva of the country. Her last single ‘Jeevan’ was an epitome of her potential as a creative storyteller and hope the future will unravel more sophisticated and thorough work from the musician. 

Nevertheless, last Sunday on November 20, the singer released yet another single titled ‘Sedi Bagar’ featuring Milan Neupane, front person of the dynamic quintet Kta Haru. With over 89,000 views in just five days after its release, the song is currently #28 on trending for music, according to Nepal-moderated YouTube broadcast. An absolute ear-candy right from the start, the chill laid-back guitar comps sway the song away to this catchiest chorus hook. Simple straight-forward phrases, soft vocal timbre, heart-warming harmonies, bluesy guitar fills and minimal ambient arrangement dictates most of the tune.

Milan Neupane, known for his aptness in exquisite song writing flaunts his prowess throughout. The duo has created a great escapist anthem consolidating nostalgic aesthetics with modern flairs. The track on a wonted listen may seem easy and achievable but to a rather versed ear the volumes of hard work and obsession with song writing is evident. 

Milan, who is rather low-key in mainstream media, is actually a very engaged, productive and thriving musician of the indie-art movement. With his band Kta Haru, a wider demographic has already gone fanatic over his quirky poetry and ingenious melodies. The singer initiated his artistic exploration as a member of the slam-poetry group Word Warriors. 

Soon after he joined Kta Haru and started collaborating with a wide range of creatives and also performing as a solo act. He also allied with Alex Nepali on his busks around Kathmandu and Pokhara. Milan’s unbothered attitude, blunt and bold storytelling ability, sassy and witty writing, peculiar choice of words and soothing baritone range all adds up to this charismatic yet affable persona which is an inspiration for many young creatives.
