Gaura festival Greetings

Kathmandu, Sept. 3: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has extended best wishes to all Nepali sisters and brothers living in the country and abroad on the occasion of the Gaura festival, 2079.     

Giving a message of the best wishes today, President Bhandari wished the festival inspired all to preserve original culture of the country and end aberrations and social evils, thereby building a civilized, cultured and equitable society.

She wished peace, prosperity and happiness to all Nepalis. "Reunion of family members, receipt of the prasad of 'biruda', a special dish made out of beans and cereals, and entertainment with 'deuda' song and dance foster social harmony, love and affection." Similarly, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun extended the best wishes message on this occasion.   

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said the religious and cultural songs, hymns and Deuda dances performed as part of the celebration of Gaura festival constitute Nepal's invaluable folk culture.
