Police managing street cattle in Bardiya

Bardiya, Aug. 3:The District Police Office, Bardiya, has taken the responsibility of managing the stray cattle oafter they increased the risk of accidents in the town.The district police have started managing street cattle in the Gulariya Bazaar area.  

According to police, unmanaged street animals have posed not only risk of accidents in the early morning and night time but also caused traffic congestion throughout the day.

"We have started catching the street cattle in coordination with Gulariya Municipality and handing them to the Gaushala, an animal shelter in Krishnasar," said Superintendent of Police (SP) Birendra Bahadur Shahi, chief at Bardiya District Police.

The locals have been found leaving animals like cows in the streets after they stopped producing milk. Similarly, oxen are left in the streets as they are not required for ploughing nowadays.

"The owners should be held accountable for the cattle. There should be strict law to penalise individuals leaving cattle in the streets," said Kul Prasad Subedi, chairman of the Krishnasar-based Gaushala.
