blog

BY BASUDEV SHARMA,Jajarkot, May 14: The District Administration Office and the District Post Office signed an agreement to provide passport delivery services directly to citizens’ homes. The agreement was signed by Chief District Officer Khadananda Adhikari and District Post Office Chief Mukti Prasad Sharma.

The service was launched after many passports remained uncollected at the District Administration Office in Jajarkot. Under the agreement, passports received from the Department of Passports at the District Administration Office will now be delivered to the respective applicants’ homes through the District Post Office.

Chief District Officer Khadananda Adhikari stated that the agreement was made to provide services directly to the public, as citizens often have to spend considerable time and money travelling to the district headquarters, Khalanga, even for minor tasks such as collecting passports.

According to him, residents from Junichande Rural Municipality, Barekot Rural Municipality, Shivalaya Rural Municipality, and Nalgad Municipality have been forced to pay high transportation costs to access services. Therefore, once the passports are sent by the Passport Department, they will now be delivered directly to citizens’ homes. He added that the decision was made to spare ordinary people from unnecessary hardship and expensive travel solely for passport collection.

The District Administration Office has begun simplifying public services to make them more accessible and convenient. In line with government directives aimed at improving service delivery, administrative services are being expanded. Following a decision made by the Government of Nepal Council of Ministers during its meeting on Chaitra 13, a plan was introduced to modernise postal services into a government courier system capable of delivering official services directly to citizens’ homes.

In accordance with Agenda No. 27 of the governance reform programme and directives issued by the Monitoring and Evaluation Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, arrangements have now been implemented to deliver government documents such as passports, citizenship duplicates, and licenses directly to citizens’ homes.

District Post Office Chief Mukti Prasad Sharma said that, as per the agreement between the two offices, passports will be sealed in envelopes and delivered door-to-door. Any passports that cannot be delivered in villages will be returned to the District Administration Office.

According to him, postal service charges incurred while providing the service will be collected from the service recipients as per the policies of the Department of Postal Services and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

He further stated that the home delivery service has already come into operation following the agreement, and passports received from the District Administration Office are currently being distributed to the public through the postal system.
