By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 14 : The IME Group is preparing to bring the Jalpadevi Cable Car, currently under construction in Chisapani of Kailali, into operation within next two months.

According to the company, construction work on the project has reached its final stage and is expected to be completed within scheduled timeframe.

Former President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Chairperson of Jalpadevi Cable Car Pvt. Ltd., Chandra Prasad Dhakal, said Jalpadevi Cable Car would also begin operation on schedule.

He said that the private sector has consistently proven its ability to complete projects within the stipulated timeline, budget, and quality standards.

“The private sector has been completing projects within the designated time, budget, and quality standards,” Dhakal said. “We started construction of the Jalpadevi Cable Car project around 11 months ago, and we are bringing this project into operation within the targeted timeframe as well.”

The IME Group is constructing the 3.1-kilometre cable car from Chisapani in Lamki Chuha Municipality–3, Kailali, to Rajkanda in Mohanyal Rural Municipality–7.

The project, with a total investment of Rs. 5 billion, will feature facilities such as a hotel, casino, banquet hall, and other infrastructure at the bottom station.

The top station will include a resort, temple, sky walk, walking trail, restaurant, children’s park, and other tourism infrastructure, according to the company.

Chairman Dhakal said Nepal cannot achieve the expected economic transformation without expanding investment in tourism infrastructure, adding that tourism alone can bring significant changes to the country’s economic, cultural, and social sectors.

He said that it is necessary to increase investment in tourism infrastructure to extend tourists’ stays, earn foreign currency, create employment opportunities, and increase government revenue.

Dhakal said that his long-term vision is to develop a cable car tourism circuit, and described the Jalpadevi Cable Car as an important project toward that goal.

He acknowledged the support received from local communities, political parties, and government agencies as a key factor behind the project’s success.

Located near the Karnali Chisapani Bridge — a major tourism hub connecting the Lumbini Province, Karnali Province, and Sudurpashchim Province regions — the project can be reached within a two-hour drive from the Indian border.

The company expects the cable car to become an additional attraction for Indian tourists visiting the Karnali Chisapani area.
