Musikot, July 27: Landslides in Aathbiskot Municipality in Rukum West district in Karnali Province have displaced 39 houses. Thirty-five families in Ward no. 7, Gara, and four houses in Ward no. 8, Syala, are at the high risk of landslides in the wake of continuous rain in the past few days.
Landslides have already deposited debris in the settlements while risks of further landslides are persisted. According to Amrit Budha, Chairman of Ward no. 7, efforts were made throughout the day on Tuesday to remove the landslides and debris, and prevent further damages.
He also informed that all 39 houses of the village have been evacuated. Budha said that arrangements have been made to save people, livestock and food crops while the evacuated people are staying at their relatives' houses. Landslide is being removed by excavators and other machines with the support from Nepal Police.
According to Budha, the landslides occurred in the village due to the collapse of an irrigation canal of Radijyula-Gara-Simtara because of the mud and stones that fell down from the Radizyula-Danje-Khadi-Waringe road section.
He informed that four water wells in the ward and mobile shops on the road were buried. It is said that the toilets of some houses have also been buried. Locals have said that due to landslides in the village, some mud houses are in a verge of collapse. Complete details of the damage have yet not been collected.
Landslides have swept away the paddy and maize fields in Gara and corn fields in Syala.
Mayor of the municipality Rabi KC informed that the spring of Naulapani has burst at Syala and the maize crops have been completely damaged. According to him, the maize fields of Khadak Budha, Mahendra Kumar Bohra, Bhim Bahadur Budha and Prabir Budha have been completely damaged.
Similarly, the houses of Khadak Budha, Mahendra Kumar Bohra, Bhim Bahadur Budha and Hari Bahadur Budha are at high risk of landslides. Since there is a possibility of a landslide at night, the municipality has said that an excavator has been kept ready to remove the landslide.
