Five-party alliance agrees to extend term of transitional justice commissions

Kathmandu, July 15: An agreement has been reached among five-party alliance partners to extend the term of transitional justice commissions.


A meeting of top leaders of the five-party alliance partners took the decision in this regard. Vice-Chairperson of the Rashtriya Janamorcha, Durga Pokharel, said the meeting decided to extend the term of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappeared Persons.    


The term of both commissions is only till Saturday and bills related to this would be tabled today itself.    


Similarly, the discussion was also held on a citizenship-related bill in the meeting, shared Pokharel. The meeting drew the conclusion to pass the citizenship-related bill in consent. 

The meeting was coordinated by Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba where NC's senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, Vice-President Purna Bahadur Khadka, CPN (Maoist Centre)'s Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', Chairperson of the CPN (Unified Socialist) Madhav Kumar Nepal, leader of the Janata Samajbadi Party, Rajendra Shrestha, and Janamorcha's Vice-Chair Pokharel were present.
