By Our Correspondent Humla, July 15: The tourism road from the Hekpa River to Tumling (Limi) has reopened after nearly seven months.
Paljor Tamang, chairman of Namkha Rural Municipality Ward No. 6, said that an avalanche caused by heavy snowfall had blocked the road in December last year. “But now, it has been opened and traffic is running smoothly,” he said, adding that this had brought an end to the situation of people having to walk through Hilsa to reach the centre of local levels as well as the district headquarters Simkot.
“This has also made transportation of goods easier,” Tamang said.
Devi Aidi, head of the district’s Infrastructure Development Office, informed that it took a week to repair and clear the road. “The avalanche had damaged the road in several places and the snow had blocked the whole section. We repaired it and cleared everything,” Aidi said, stating that the Office repaired nearly 60 kilometres of road to get it running.
With the reopening of the road, the food aid provided by China in October last year, which is being stored in Hilsa right now, will also be transported to Limi. Similarly, pilgrims will also be able to travel to Lapcha to view the Mansarovar from Nepali land.
