60 % paddy plantation completes in Bara

By Our Correspondent Bara, July 15: Paddy plantation has been completed in around 60 per cent of paddy filed in the district so far.

According to Jitendra Prasad Yadav, chief of Agriculture Knowledge Centre, Bara Kalaiya, paddy of different varieties has been planted in about 60 per cent of 46,000 hectares of total paddy cultivation land in the district and in the remaining 40 per cent filed, paddy will be transplanted soon. It is estimated that Bhadaiya varieties of paddy will be planted in an area of 11,931 hectares and Agahani in an area of 34,165 hectares this year.

According to him, this year's cultivation has become costly due to lack of rain during plantation season even though there was enough rain three weeks back.

According to Raj Narayan Sah, Crop Development Officer and Information Officer of Agriculture Knowledge Centre, the planting of Bhadaiya paddy has almost been completed but only half of the planting of Aghani paddy has been completed so far.

Farmer Ram Lochan Prasad Chaurasia of Mahagadhimai Municipality-6 Babuain said that farmers face various problems while planting paddy this year due to lack of timely rains.

According to Chaurasia, the farmers are facing problems as the paddy seedlings are drying up due to the scorching sun.

Farmers who used to cultivate paddy depending on rain have started planting paddy with the help of  pump sets in lack of sufficient rains. Sultan Ansari, a farmer of Kalaiya Sub-Metropolitan City-9, Rampur, said that farming now costs three times higher than before in lack of timely rains.
