Sufficient rain leads to quicker plantation in Lamjung

Lamjung, July 2: More than 35 per cent of paddy transplantation has been completed in Lamjung so far. According to the Agriculture Knowledge Center, Lamjung, paddy plantation started in most parts of the district sooner than last year.    


Chief of Agriculture Knowledge Center Lamjung Sudip Khatiwada said at this time last year, it was difficult to plant an average of 30 per cent. He said that since the month of June this year planting is being done in most places including the fields along the river.    


According to the Center, some parts of the district are yet to see paddy plantations where the paddy saplings are yet to mature. Khatiwada said that of the eight municipalities in the district highest percentage of the plantation was recorded in Marshyangdi and Kwalasothar rural municipalities.    


Out of 45,050 hectares of cultivable land in Lamjung, paddy is being cultivated in 16,612 hectares. Similarly, Chaite paddy has been cultivated in an area of 910 hectares.    


Farmers of the district have been planting advanced varieties of paddy like Sabitri, Jethobudho, Ramdhan, Golden Fragrance, Loktantra, Ekle and other hybrid varieties including Makwanpur, Gorakhnath, Loknath, Mansuli, US 312 etc.    


Last year, 44,776 metric tonnes of paddy were produced in an area of 14,260 hectares in the district. (RSS)
