By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, June 8: The dream of Nepali eves to secure their spot at the ICC U-19 Women's Cricket World Cup 2023 was shattered after they suffered a 49 runs defeat at the hands of Thailand at Cricket Oval, Bangi, Malaysia on Tuesday.
Nepal U-19 women's cricket team traveled to Malaysia a week ago with an aim of securing their spot at the ICC U-19 Women's Cricket World Cup 2023 which will be held at South Africa next time but failed to do so after conceding defeat in their fourth match of the qualifiers.
This is the second defeat for Nepali eves in the ongoing qualifiers. Earlier, Nepal suffered a humiliating 10-wicket defeat at the hands of United Arab Emirates (UAE) in their second match of the qualifier on Saturday.
After today's defeat against Thai women, Nepal remained at the third spot with four points from four matches while United Arab Emirates (UAE) is leading the table with eight points from four matches while with equal eight points from four matches Thailand trailed at the second spot in the net run rate system.
Similarly, Host Malaysia is at the fourth position with four points from four matches and Qatar is at fifth spot with zero point from four matches and with equal zero points from four matches Bhutan is at bottom of the league standing in the net run rate system.
Altogether six teams including host Malaysia, Nepal, United Arab Emirates (UAE),
Thailand, Qatar and Bhutan are taking part in the qualifier. The top team from the qualifiers will secure their spot at the ICC U-19 Women's T20 World Club will be held at South Africa next year.
Nanthita Boonsukhan claimed three wickets as Thailand dismissed the Nepali side for 40 runs in the 19.5 overs. Similarly, Pornnapha Saehoe and Thanyalak Chumnan contributed one wicket apiece in a huge victory for Thailand.
Nepali eves failed to face lethal bowling attack from Thailand bowlers as they were all-out in scoring just 40 runs.
The middle order batter, Shristi Jaisi, scored highest seven runs for Nepal. She scored seven runs off 21 balls while opener Sana Praveen chipped in six runs off 21 balls but other batters of Nepal failed to make double digits for Nepal.
Earlier, Nepal won the toss and invited Thailand to bat. The Thais scored 89 runs with the loss of seven wickets in the allocated 20 overs match. Thipatcha Puttanwong scored highest 20 runs off 31 balls while opener Banthida Leephatthana scored 19 runs off 22 balls that included a single boundary and Suwanan Khiaoto scored 16 runs off 24 balls.
Similarly, other batters of Thailand failed to reach the double digit mark.
Manisha Kumari Upadhayay and Kritika Marasini grabbed two wickets while Sneha Mahara took one wicket for victim Nepal.
Nepal will encounter host Malaysia in their last match of the qualifiers on Thursday.
