Keep universities free from party politics: Education Minister Pokharel

By Hairi Prasad Koirala, Urlabari, April 21: Co-chancellor of the Purbanchal University, also the Minister of Education, Sasmit Pokharel, has pointed out the need to free the university from party political influence.

Addressing the 14th convocation ceremony of the Purbanchal University held at Purbanchal University, Gothgaun, Morang, today, even though politics is important for the development of society, its usage needs to be at an appropriate place and context. 

Saying that educational institutions, such as universities, need to be kept aside from the political meddling, he said that even the officials need to be apart from the political predicament. 

According to him, education is not just limited to certificates but needs to be service-oriented, practical and skill-based. 

The main challenge of today is not a lack of knowledge but its integration into skills and profession. 

Saying that good governance is the priority of the government, he urged students to use their gained skills and knowledge for the prosperity of the nation. 

The minister emphasized that modern skill development must keep pace with rapid scientific advancements, allowing us to move forward alongside a shrinking, interconnected world.

Inspiring students to think out of the box, the Education Minister said," We must walk toe to toe in the journey of the prosperity of the nation. 

Of the 6,706 students who completed their MPhil, master's, and bachelor's till December 31, 2025, 4, 652 students have been awarded a degree in person.
