Gandaki, April 15: Janaki Secondary School located at Pokhara metropolitan City-17 has been imparting skill-oriented training to its students from class 5 to 8. The students have been manufacturing bamboo-items like penholders and 'dhakiya' baskets.
The school has launched the training from the financial assistance of Rs 150,000 provided by Education Development Directorate of the Social Development Ministry of Gandaki Province under 'Earning While Learning' programme, said Chairperson of the School Management Committee, Hari Prasad Bastola.
The training, launched by utilizing the school holiday time, has helped students remain connected with skill-oriented education as well as make them to become self-reliant and creative.
School Principal Arjun Kandel shared that the money collected from the sale of bamboo-products is used for different purpose of students and the school.
A trainer Kamal Acharya mentioned that such practice of prioritizing local resources, skill and creativity would help reduce dependency on imported goods as well as create opportunity for students to show their talent and creativity. There is a participation of 25 students in the training.
Meanwhile, breaking a trend of presenting guests with imported items in different formal programmes, the guests were presented with bamboo-items made by such students in a recent programme organised to inaugurate newly constructed building of ward office of Pokhara metropolis-17.
On the occasion, Ward Chairperson Radhika Shahi Yogi handed over different types of bamboo items including—pen holders, dhakiya and baskets to Mayor Dhan Raj Acharya, Deputy-Mayor Manju Devi Gurung and Chief Administrative Officer, Mukti Raj Aryal.
Such bamboo-items are the symbols of skill, handwork and creativity of students, not only gift, added Shahi. Most of the participants in the programme mentioned that bamboo-items manufactured by children of their own locality have create a sense of intimacy and originality. (RSS)
