Dhalkebar, Apr. 9: The amount collected from a cultural programme was handed over to Ashok Dutta, a lyricist and communications professional from Janakpur who has been suffering from oral cancer for a long time.

According to Ritesh Sah, president of Rangadarpan, Rs. 547,100 collected from the cultural programme was handed over to Dutta, who is receiving cancer treatment.

He said that various cultural groups in Janakpur had organised a special cultural programme at the hall of the Maithili Development Fund on April 4 to raise financial support for Dutta’s treatment

From ticket sales of the programme, Rs. 443,500 was collected, while Rs. 113,600 was received as cash support from various individuals and organisations.

Out of the total amount, Rs. 10,000 spent on diesel for the generator and tea for the audience during the programme was deducted.

The remaining amount was then handed over at Dutta’s residence by officials of various organisations, including Jeevanath Chaudhary, president of the Maithili Development Fund, he added.

After it became public that Dutta, who has been battling cancer for the past three years, had been deprived of regular treatment due to financial hardship, various social and cultural organisations in Janakpur had jointly decided to organise the cultural event.

President Sah expressed his belief that the amount handed over would provide at least some relief for Dutta’s treatment.
