By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 31: Short story writer Ratna Prajapati was honoured with the Dhanaman Katha Puraskar.
Matrika Pokharel, a member of the Language Commission and a noted story writer, presented the award to Prajapati in an event organised by the Laghukatha Samaj and the Srijana Abhiyan in Bhaktapur.
Pokharel stated that such recognition is both an honour for the writer and an evaluation of his creative works. "Prajapati’s stories give significant importance to local culture and emotions," Pokharel remarked.
Short story writer Dhruba Madhikarmi, introducing the awardee, noted that Prajapati’s stories effectively portray a sense of emotional depth, love and infatuation across various contexts.
Senior story writer Dhanaman Shrestha shared that he established the award out of his personal interest in story writing, with the aim of honouring creative writers.
Receiving the award, Prajapati expressed that the recognition has encouraged him to pursue writing short stories with greater responsibility.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Hariprasad Bhandari, a scholar with a PhD in Laghu Katha (micro stories) studies, extended congratulations and best wishes to the awardee.
Tulsi Hari Koirala, chair of the society, stated that such awards help honour both creators and their creations.
The award, established to encourage writers in the genres of short stories and micro-stories in Nepali literature, is presented annually, alternating between the two categories.
