By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 19: Prime Minister Sushila Karki, on Wednesday, thanked the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) for its role in ensuring the election’s successful conduct.

NCP coordinator and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, along with former Prime Ministers Madhav Kumar Nepal, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Barshaman Pun and other leaders, had arrived at Baluwatar at the invitation of the Prime Minister.

The meeting also discussed the recent House of Representatives elections and other contemporary political issues.

“You participated in the elections, created a favourable environment for them, and played a supportive role in giving the country a peaceful and democratic way forward. Thank you very much for this,” said PM Karki.

She congratulated the leaders who won the election and wished those who were unsuccessful better luck next time.

NCP leaders, in turn, expressed relief over the country finding a way forward after the elections were held under the leadership of Prime Minister Karki.

“Had this election not taken place, the country would have faced another major crisis. The courage and hard work you have demonstrated in this regard are highly significant and commendable,” said Prachanda.

He also recalled that he and his party had supported the election process from the very beginning.

“We have maintained from the outset that there is no alternative to elections. We were the only ones to state clearly that elections must be held without hesitation,” he said.

Leader Nepal showed concern and relief on PM Karki’s appointment as the interim Prime Minister.

“I felt a great sense of relief the day I heard that Sushila Karki would become Prime Minister. However, when reports emerged that you might not assume office, we were all deeply concerned. We believed that under your leadership, the statute would be safeguarded, the system preserved, and the situation brought under control,” said Nepal.

He added that although conducting the elections within six months amid a challenging and uncertain situation was a formidable task, it was accomplished due to the Prime Minister’s credibility, integrity and determination.
