By Siraj Khan,Nepalgunj, Mar. 18: The Nepalgunj-based office of the Food Management and Trading Company Limited currently has 19,000 quintals of various types of rice and 10,000 quintals of paddy in stock.

Ram Saran Lamichhane, Chief of the company’s Nepalgunj office, said that the warehouse currently holds 19,000 quintals of rice, including varieties such as Jira Masino, Aruwa Masino, and Aruwa Moto.

He added that 10,000 quintals of paddy purchased this year, which is yet to be processed, is also in stock.

According to him, the stock includes around 5,000 quintals each of Jira Masino and Aruwa Masino, and 9,000 quintals of Aruwa Moto rice.

He said that both retail and wholesale sales of rice are ongoing, and supplies are also being sent to districts in Karnali Province in western Nepal upon demand.

Lamichhane said that demand for the company’s rice has increased following a recent price adjustment, which reduced prices by Rs. 500 to Rs. 600 per quintal. He added that the company aims to remain competitive with the local market while maintaining quality that consumers trust.

He further informed that food depots in Karnali districts such as Humla, Jumla, Kalikot, Dolpa, Mugu, and Jajarkot currently have sufficient rice stock, and additional supplies can be dispatched immediately if needed.

This year, the company purchased only 20,000 quintals of paddy in Banke district. Although many farmers brought paddy for sale, limited quotas prevented the company from purchasing all of it, forcing some farmers to return with their produce.

The government had fixed the minimum support price for paddy this year at Rs. 3,463.81 per quintal for coarse paddy and Rs. 3,628.33 per quintal for medium-grade paddy.
