Home Ministry directs probe into book-burning incident

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 18: The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed the Nepal Police to investigate an incident deemed capable of affecting Nepal–China relations and to take necessary action against those found responsible.

According to the Ministry on Tuesday, it received detailed information through a communication from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which included particulars of the incident. Based on this, authorities have been directed to carry out an investigation and initiate legal action against the accused.

The matter concerns the burning of a book titled The Governance of China, authored by Chinese President Xi Jinping, at Manmohan Technical Institute in Morang. The government of China had drawn the attention of Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the incident.

In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs forwarded a diplomatic note received from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Kathmandu to the Home Ministry. Acting on the communication, the Home Ministry has instructed the police to proceed with necessary measures.

The Ministry has also directed the Chief District Officer’s office and security agencies in Morang to investigate the incident and bring those responsible within the ambit of the law.
