By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 5: Amid heightened tensions in West Asia, the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 triangular series scheduled to be held in Nepal from 10 March has been postponed until further notice.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) issued a statement on Wednesday confirming the postponement of the series, which was set to feature the UAE and Oman alongside the hosts under the League 2 cycle.
“In light of the current situation in the Middle East, the CWC League 2 matches scheduled to begin on 10 March in Kathmandu have been postponed until further notice,” CAN said in its press release.
“The rescheduled dates will be announced in the coming days following further consultations,” added the statement, signed by CAN spokesperson Chhumbi Lama.
The decision follows escalating regional instability after Israeli and US strikes on Tehran, which killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Subsequent retaliatory attacks by Iran on Israeli and US embassies, as well as American military bases in Gulf states, have disrupted international flights.
The closure of airspace across West Asia, following missile and drone strikes, had already cast doubt on the series, with players from the UAE and Oman unable to travel to Nepal.
The tri‑series was due to be staged at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground from 10 to 20 March. Nepal had already named their final squad.
All three teams had recently returned from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, where Nepal and the UAE each managed one victory, while Oman exited winless at the group stage.
In League 2 standings, Nepal sit seventh with 12 points from 20 matches, having won five, lost 13, and recorded two no‑results.
The UAE are bottom of the table with 10 points from five wins and 15 defeats. Oman occupy fourth place with 11 wins, seven losses and two draws.
The USA lead the table with 36 points from 24 matches, followed by Scotland on 30 and the Netherlands on 28.
