Top leaders urge government to ensure safety of Nepalis in Middle East

Kathmandu, Feb 28: In the wake of rising tensions in the Middle East, top leaders of Nepal's major political parties have urged the government to pay attention to safeguard the lives of Nepalis in the region.     

Top leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), Nepali Communist Party (NCP), Rastriya Swatantra Party and others too have asked the government to ensure security of Nepalis living there, while expressing their concerns to the rising tensions in the Middle East.     

Taking to his social network platform, Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has said he was worried about the recent tensed situation developing in the Middle East. "Security of our Nepali brothers and sisters residing there in course of employment has become sensitive. In this context, I would urge all Nepali brothers and sisters to apply security precautions by being well-informed about this context," Thapa mentioned.     

Thapa has also urged the government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Nepal's diplomatic missions in those countries to take frequent updates about the situation of Nepalis there and ensure immediate and effective security management at the earliest possible time.     

Likewise, CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has also asked the government to take measures for the security of Nepalis in the Middle East. Oli has urged the Nepali sisters and brothers in the UAE, Israel, Iran and other Middle East countries to stay safe and remain conscious, while asking the government and Nepal's diplomatic missions to get mobilized for the safety of Nepali citizens.     

Nepali Communist Party coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', via social media platform has urged the government to implement high-level measures to safeguard Nepalis from potential dangers following the recent attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel, along with the ensuing developments.     

He voiced significant concern regarding this situation, emphasizing that the security of millions of Nepalis employed in the Middle East is of utmost importance.     

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chairman Rabi Lamichhane has called on the government to prioritize the safety and welfare of Nepali citizens working in Gulf nations in light of the recent events in the Middle East. He pointed out the increasing risk of the security situation deteriorating in Gulf countries like the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Bahrain, urging the government to focus on the lives, jobs, and safety of the millions of Nepalis residing there.     

Former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai and outgoing Speaker Devraj Ghimire have shared their concerns about the situation, urging the government to remain alert about the potential risks faced by Nepalis abroad and to take prompt action to ensure their safety.     

The military actions taken by the United States and Israel against Iran have prompted retaliatory strikes by Iran on U.S. military installations in the Middle East.(RSS)
