Communications Secretary Basnet stresses on responsible journalism

Kathmandu, Feb 26: Secretary at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Laxmi Kumari Basnet has stressed on responsible journalism.     

At an orientation entitled 'Election News and Code of Conduct' for women journalists organized here today by RSS in collaboration with the Election Commission, she highlighted that professional journalism was the need of the hour.     

Noting the important role of media sector for conducting the election in a free, fair and fearless environment, Secretary Basnet underlined the urgency of disseminating factual and objective news as the voters are supposed to build their opinion based on the information received through media.     

"Let us disseminate news in a way that helps voters reach the voting centers without any obstruction and cast their ballot in a prudent way," Secretary Basnet added.     

RSS executive chairperson Dharmendra Jha also echoed the need of effectively manufacturing and disseminating news in a way to help the elections.     

He explained that message dissemination would go weak when there is no clarity on audience and rational behind the message tailoring.     

Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Chair Nirmala Sharma said it was the responsibility of all journalists to comply with the code of conduct.(RSS)
