By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 24: The Election Commission (EC) has issued a formal warning to professors, teachers and staff affiliated with educational institutions, directing them not to participate in election campaigning.
In a press statement issued on Monday, EC stated it had received complaints alleging that certain members of teaching and administrative staff were actively involved in promoting election candidates.
The EC emphasised that such activities violate the Election Code of Conduct, 2025, which has been enforced to guarantee free, fair and impartial elections.
The election body reiterated that educational institutions and their staff are prohibited from campaigning for or against any political party or candidate.
The use of institutional vehicles, buildings or other resources for election-related purposes is also strictly forbidden.
Citing provisions of the Education Act-2028, the EC reminded that teachers or staff found to be members of political party executive committees may face removal from their posts.
It further warned breaches of the Code of Conduct could result in legal action under Section 48 of the Code.
It has instructed district-level monitoring committees and election officials to intensify oversight to ensure strict compliance.
The statement underscores the EC's commitment to maintaining neutrality within public institutions and safeguarding the integrity of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
