Jai Trophy: Army and APF triumph

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 22: Departmental sides Tribhuvan Army Club and APF Club claimed victories in the Jai Trophy cricket tournament on Saturday.

At the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Army defeated defending champions Nepal Police Club by nine wickets. Meanwhile, at the Mulpani Cricket Ground, APF beat Bag-mati Pradesh by eight wickets.

Army’s spinner claimed nine wickets as Police were bowled out for just 88 in their second in-nings, leaving Army with a lead of 41 runs. Kushal Malla struck the winning boundary and re-mained unbeaten on 42, while Imran Sheikh was dismissed for one.

Earlier, resuming their second innings with a 47-run deficit, Police were all out for 88.

In the other match, APF bowler Irshad Ahmed took five wickets against Bagmati, while captain Rohit Poudel and Asif Sheikh scored half-centuries.

Chasing a target of 137 set by Bagmati on the second day at Mulpani, APF reached the total for the loss of two wickets in the second session. Captain Rohit remained unbeaten on 56, while Asif Sheikh was dismissed for 59.

Bagmati, who had trailed by 31 runs at the end of the first day, were bowled out for 167 in their second innings.
