By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Jan 30: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has paid tribute at the Martyrs’ Memorial in Lainchaur today.

Prime Minister Karki paid tribute to martyrs by laying a wreath on the martyrs' memorial on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day, on Friday morning.

This day is observed in remembrance of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the welfare of the nation and its people.

In Nepal, Martyrs’ Day is commemorated in honor of the four martyrs, Dharmabhakta Mathema, Dashrath Chand Thakur, Gangalal Shrestha, and Shukraraj Shastri, who sacrificed their lives for the establishment of democracy, along with other martyrs.

They were sentenced to death by the then-government for raising their voices against the Rana regime. The sacrifices of these martyrs and the inspiration drawn from them led to the end of the autocratic Rana rule and the establishment of democracy in Nepal.  Photos: Keshab Gurung/TRN
