Art for Peace kicks off

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 19: An art exhibition titled ‘Art for Peace’ jointly organised by the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), the Department of Traditional Arts, and the Bangladesh Artist Group began on Sunday.

 The exhibition was inaugurated by the Chancellor of the Academy, Naradmani Hartamchhali, and the President of the Bangladesh Artist Group, Saiful Islam.

Speaking at the programme, Chancellor Hartamchhali said that this art exhibition holds special significance in the current situation. He added that the exhibition would further help in understanding the art of Nepal, India, and Bangladesh, and expressed that similar programmes would be organised in the future as well.

Former Chancellor and senior artist Kiran Manandhar said that, considering the present global context, this exhibition, which raises the theme of peace, is highly important. 

Sanjay Bantawa Rai, Head of the Department of Contemporary Painting at the Academy, said that the theme of the exhibition is not only art for peace but also a message for the world. He added that the exhibition includes artworks created by artists reflecting the cultures, societies, and experiences of the three countries.

President of the Bangladesh Artist Group, Saiful Islam, expressed that the ‘Art for Peace’ exhibition organised in Nepal could also be held in other countries in the future, and extended his gratitude to all the artists participating in the exhibition.

Organised to convey messages of peace, humanity, and global friendship through art, the exhibition features artworks by 100 young and senior artists from Nepal, India, and Bangladesh. The exhibition will run until January 24.
