blog

BY OUR CORRESPONDENT,Lamjung, Jan. 16: Tarebhir, located in Chamche of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-4 in Lamjung, is being developed as a major destination for rock climbing. The rural municipality has begun a study to explore additional routes and assess the full potential of rock climbing at Tarebhir, lying along the Annapurna Circuit trekking route. An international group of mountain guides has concluded that the cliff is suitable for rock climbing.

An initial study on rock climbing at Tarebhir was conducted eight years ago by an international mountain guide group in collaboration with the Gandaki Alpine Club. Following positive findings, the rural municipality has now started searching for additional routes, said Chairman Arjun Gurung. “The study and trial of rock climbing at Tarebhir has been successful. We are working to identify new routes and develop this site into one of the best rock-climbing training destinations, not only in Nepal but also globally,” he said.

Gurung stated that the municipality will move forward seeking support from the provincial and federal governments for infrastructure development. He also informed that locals had already been briefed about the study and the potential of rock climbing at the site.

International mountain guide Anup Gurung said Tarebhir in Chamche is an excellent location for adventure sports and that its development would further enhance the appeal of the Annapurna Circuit. The proposed site lies about 500 metres from Chamche Bazaar. Marsyangdi Rural Municipality and the Gandaki Alpine Club are jointly preparing a detailed project report to support infrastructure development and a master plan.

Tarebhir is situated at an altitude of 1,540 metres above sea level. The site is located about 30 kilometres from Besisahar, the district headquarters of Lamjung, towards Manang. Chairman Gurung added that the area will be developed not only for rock climbing but also as a training and skill development centre.
