By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 16: Three Nepali films, Gobar Ganesh, Mirmire, and Viral Gorkhe, were released simultaneously across the country on Thursday on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti.
Directed by Marichman Shrestha, popularly known as Balchhi Dhurbe, ‘Gobar Ganesh’ takes advantage of the Maghe Sankranti holiday. The film is based on a social issue and attempts to portray the dreams of ordinary people who come to Kathmandu hoping for a better life and the disappointment that follows when those dreams fail to come true.
With a runtime of 140 minutes, Gobar Ganesh has received 112 shows nationwide.
Produced under the banner of Balchhi Dhurbe Films, the film features artistes including Balchhi Dhurbe, Barsha Siwakoti, Binod Neupane, Padam Tamang, Nirmal Sharma, Laxminath Timilsina and Santosh Baniya, among others.
Likewise, Dayahang Rai starrer ‘Mirmire’ centres on the emotional relationship between a father and daughter, along with a triangular love story. Dayahang Rai has said that ‘Mirmire’ serves as an answer to those who claim Nepali artistes lack passion, which is why he chose to be part of this film.
Mirmire is written and directed by Yam Sherpa and is presented by Yarsa Films. The cast includes Dayahang Rai, Prakash Saput, Srijana Ninglekhu, Maotse Gurung, Chhulthim Gurung, Bhola Raj Sapkota, Bimal Yadav, Shaisa Gauchan, Chirag Shrestha and Naman Raj Gajurel. The producers are Nimu Sherpa, Chhongba Lama Sherpa and Angchhiring Sherpa, with Govind Bohara and Sudip Kunwar as co-producers. With a runtime of 105 minutes, Mirmire has secured more than 150 shows nationwide.
Similarly, ‘Viral Gorkhey,’ starring Srishti Shrestha and Saugat Malla, presents a story about the trend of trying to go viral on social media and the personal and social consequences it brings. With a runtime of 146 minutes, the film has received 107 shows in the cinema halls.
Besides Nepali films, South Indian film ‘The Raja Saab’ starring Prabhas, Hollywood films ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, Bollywood film Dhurandhar, and Nepali film Paran are also screening in cinema halls across Nepal.
